Janet Jackson’s Crew at Urban Dance

Article Excerpt from Inner West Courier:

JUST like her brother Michael, Janet Jackson has the moves.
Whether they admit it or not, everyone has danced along to a Jackson song or learnt an entire routine.

The youngest Jackson sibling will be bringing her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour to the Opera House in early November. Even better, her dancers will be getting up close and personal with the inner west when they head to Urban Dance Centre in Glebe for a workshop.

Owner and choreographer of Urban Dance, Juliette Verne, was almost lost for words when she found out they would be dancing in her studio.

“I’m so privileged that that calibre of dancers, who have danced for and choreographed the best artists, will be at our studio,” Ms Verne said.

“I did it in Perth and I felt like I was in a Janet rehearsal. The classes are just amazing.”

About eight of Jackson’s dancers will be conducting the workshop, including her choreographer Gil Duldulao and renowned dancer Jillian Meyers.
Ms Verne, a passionate hip-hop and lyrical jazz dancer, is a big fan of Jackson’s dance style.

“She is one of my idols,” Ms Verne said. “She is an artist that always incorporates dance and singing. When she dances, she’s got a real hip-hop flavour and crisp jazz techniques and that’s what I do.”

The dancers will teach some of Jackson’s signature moves and talk about their on-tour experiences.
